A Clinical Study on the Characteristics and Pregnancy Rate of the Women desiring the Tubal Reversal



Abstract
106 cases of microsurgical tubal reversal were investigated, which were performed at the infertility clinic of Tae Nung Sung Sim Hospital from March 1991 to May 1994.
We could follow up 97 cases among these 106 cases.
@ES the results were as follows;
@EN 1. The patients' characteristics were as follows; mean age 33.1 years(23~41), mean number of living children 1.5(0~4) and average interval between sterilization and reversal 5.2years(1~13).
2. The reasons for tubal reversal were remarriage(40.6%), desire for a male child (23.6%) desire for a larger family(22.6%) and the loss of children(13.2%)
3. 96.2% of previous sterilizations were done by laparoscopic method(eletrocautery 59.4% and Yoon's ring 36.8%), 1.9% bilateral tubal ligation at cesarean section, 1.9% unilat eral tub-al ligation at ectopic pregnancy operation.
4. The main microsurgical operative procedures were insthmico-isthmic anastomosis 50.0% and isthmico-ampullary anastomosis 35.8%.
5. The mean post-operative tubal length according to sterilization method was 7.3cm in Yoon's ring and 5.1 cm in electric cauterization.
6. The intrauterine pregnancy rate was 81.4% in 97 cases of tubal reversal.
7. Comparing the pregnancy rate according to the sterilization method, 89.7% in laparoscopic Yoon's ring and 77.8% in laparoscopic cautery.
8. The pregnancy rate within the first year after tubal reversal was 87.3% and 97.7% within the second year.
9. The outcome of 83 pregnancies after reversal was as follows;72 cases of fullterm delivery, 2 cases of spontaneous abortion, 4 cases of ectopic pregnancy and 5 cases of pregnancy progress.
10. Comparing the characteristics of the patients who became pregnant(N=79) with those who didn't become pregnant, pregnant group was 1.4 years younger, tube length was 1.3cm longer, and 0.5 year shorter duration of sterilization.
